Endemol Australia head of development Nathan Gibbs will be joining London’s Zodiak Media, an independent production company overseeing 45 brands in 15 countries, as the newly-created role of group head of format acquisitions and the production and distribution group.

Mumbrella reported in August of Gibbs’ imminent departure from Endemol.

In a statement Gibbs said: “I’m delighted to be joining Zodiak Media in this exciting new era of the company’s development. Zodiak has attracted some of the very best talent in order to create and detect hot new shows going forward, and I’m thrilled to be contributing to this.

He added: “I’m excited about exploring new territories for content. recently we’ve seen some of TV’s biggest hit shows originating from countries outside of the US and UK. i’m particularly excited about the creative Renaissance that is happening in Australia. Nothing would be more satisfying than bringing to the world the next great scripted or unscripted idea from home.”

Gibbs had been with Endemol since 2007, when it was known as Southern Star, joining the production house as a development producer. Since then he has worked with the company as a consulting executive and executive producer working on shows such as Beauty & the Geek and Undercover Boss before being promoted to the head of development in January 2012.

He will be responsible for acquiring worldwide rights to third party formats to be distributed by Zodiak’s international distribution arm Zodiak Rights.

At Zodiak Gibbs will report to Grant Ross, an ex-Endemol formats exeuctive who joined Zodiak earlier this year as VP of global creative development and format acquistions.

In a statement Ross said:“As our production companies continue to grow in their local markets, broadcasters are looking to them to provide more and more content. We’re accelerating our internal creativity to respond to this, and Nathan will help us do the same with regards to third party format acquisitions.”

The appointment is effective immediately.
