Sean Ryan, one of Brisbane’s best known media executives, is to shift from Nova to News Corp.

Ryan has long been credited with the commercial success of DMG’s Nova, where he was GM of the Brisbane station. Last month he was named most popular metro station manager at the Commercial Radio Awards.

Ryan will be News Corp’s new state director, responsible for the company’s Queensland business divisions. He will start in his new role on December 9.

News Corp CEO Julian Clarke said: “We are delighted Sean has agreed to run our Queensland operations. He has broad experience in media and brings strong sales, commercial and leadership skills to the company. He has taken Nova to Brisbane’s leading radio station in six months from its launch.”

Ryan’s responsibilities include metro titles The Courier-Mail and Sunday Mail along with the Gold Coast Bulletin, Cairns Post, Townsville Bulletin and community titles.

He said: “I am looking forward to ensuring the company continues to serve the people of Queensland, including offering advertisers innovative and creative products that represent great value.”

Beofre his decade with DMG, Ryan spent 14 years in television sales for WIN, where he was network sales director.

Ryan’s appointment comes as News continues to reverse much of its national commercial centralisation instigated by previous CEO Kim Williams.
