Espresso Communications names Hill+Knowlton Asia Pacific specialist as group director

Media agency Espresso Communications has appointed Hill+Knowlton Strategies regional technology director for Asia Matthew Overington as group director.

The announcement:

Full-service media agency Espresso Communications has appointed Asia Pacific regional specialist Matthew Overington as Group Director, as the company embraces a year of strong, diversified revenue growth and prepares for further expansion in 2015.

Overington joins the Espresso team after eight years with Hill+Knowlton Strategies, where he held senior roles in their Australian, Korean and Singaporean offices. Before relocating back to Sydney with his family last month, Overington was H+K’s Regional Director, Technology for Asia.

Whilst based in Korea from 2009 to 2013, Overington served as Director and Global Client Lead for LG-One, an agency set up to apply the best global PR talent from WPP for LG Electronics. From a relatively small base of nine markets, he led this account for four years, growing the integrated PR network to more than 30 markets around the world.

Espresso has also announced the appointment of Caroline La Rose as Account Manager, and Katie Pickford as Consultant.

La Rose joins the team bringing an extensive blend of agency and in-house consulting experience across technology, consumer and lifestyle clients, while Pickford joins the team having most recently worked in an agency environment on property and consumer clients.

“These are outstanding hires for Espresso, and I am very pleased to welcome each of these very talented professionals to our team,” said Espresso Managing Director Corrie McLeod.

“I am especially delighted to welcome Matthew back to Australia. He brings enormous experience to the role, and a rare mix of expertise to share with the Espresso team and clients as the company executes plans to grow and diversify its business in 2015 and beyond.

A number of the Espresso team have previously worked with Overington when he worked as a journalist for Next Media, CBS Interactive and ACP Publishing.

“Given that Espresso’s relationship with Overington extends back to the early 2000s, we also know that he is a great guy, and we are really looking forward to working with him. It’s nice to have him back in Australia,” McLeod said.

Espresso Communications has focused its strategic attention on diversifying its client base and broadening the core expertise that it brings to client servicing.

“We have spent a lot of time and effort in the past 18 months building a platform for growth. It is gratifying to announce these outstanding new hires and as a company we are looking at the future with both excitement and enthusiasm,” McLeod said.
