NIDA: Women in Business

Learn from the best to communicate and present with authority and authenticity in the workplace.

OVERVIEW
Culture and environment play an important part in workplace communication. This course focuses on strategies and techniques to manage a range of communication challenges. Training is practical and drawn from the best of NIDA performance practice. Support materials will be provided.

COURSE COMPONENTS

PUT YOURSELF IN THE PICTURE
– Video session. Identify and review your communication style.

FINDING YOUR VOICE
– Develop your voice for effective communication in the workplace. Consider range, resonance and strength.

SETTING THE AGENDA
– Plan for successful communication. Take control of the given elements, articulate your objectives, identify obstacles and consider the strategies to overcome them.

IT’S A MAN’S WORLD
– Practice techniques that allow you to confidently manage a range of workplace communication situations. Consider gender, status, authenticity and authority.

TAKING CENTRE STAGE
– Develop confidence in body language. Consider balance, gesture and attitude.

SOCIAL NETWORK
– Consider communication techniques for a variety of situations. Develop skills for effective social interaction.

DEALING WITH NERVES
– Develop techniques to minimise stress factors and control the image we present to others.

SHE MEANS BUSINESS
– Deliver a presentation. Receive feedback and direction.

OUTCOMES
-Increased flexibility and confidence in listening and responding to challenging communication scenarios.
– Physical and vocal techniques to communicate with power.
– Increased awareness of your individual communication style and how that shapes the way you are perceived.
– Strategy and structure to prepare successfully for communication scenarios and workplace presentations.

HOW TO PREPARE
Please bring a presentation of up 3-4 minutes, which is current and pertinent to your work. We would appreciate that you bring a hard-copy version of the presentation.

It is advisable that participants wear loose and comfortable clothing (eg. flat shoes) as there may be some movement exercises.

We welcome you from 8:30am for tea and coffee. Please arrive by 8:45am to ensure a
prompt start.

Arrival tea and coffee, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided.
