Ex Federal MP Alan Ferguson made first independent chair of ABAC
The Alcohol Beverages Marketing Scheme which regulates and adjudicates on alcohol ads in Australia has made former MP Alan Ferguson its first independent chairman.

The Alcohol Beverages Marketing Scheme (ABAC) today announced that The Hon Alan Ferguson has been appointed the inaugural Independent Chair of the ABAC Management Committee.
The ABAC Management Committee comprises representatives from the alcohol and advertising peak industry associations together with a Commonwealth government representative .
The role of Chair has, to date, rotated annually among industry members of the Management Committee and this appointment will provide independence, continuity and a fresh perspective for the Management Committee.
The Hon Alan Ferguson is a former Commonwealth Senator who served three terms and was President of the Senate for 1 year. He was also Deputy President of the Senate and Chair of Committees for 3 years and served on numerouse Senate Committees, notably he was a longstanding Chair of the Joint Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade.
