Facebook: Chairs are made so people can sit down (and we’ve got a billion users now)
Facebook has announced that it has hit a billion active users for the first time, and launched a major ad campaign to promote itself.
The ad features a celebration of everyday things, arguing that items such as chairs, doors, bridges and aircraft are things that connect everyone, just like Facebook does.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg shared an update saying:
“This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month.
“If you’re reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you.
“Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.
“I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.”

The ad, The Things That Connect Us, was created by Wieden + Kennedy.
In a press release, facebook said that it currently has 11.5m monthly active users. It said that Nielsen research indicates that nearly two thirds of all online Australians have a Facebook profile with 73% of business people using Facebook daily.

Someone’s been reading actor-network theory, latched on to the idea of delegating agency to things in networks that enable us to assemble certain forms of sociality.

changing your rules to attract more revenue, like a 14 year old boy changes his mind. Clearly, maturity at the top is needed so clients, agencies and users get some consistency versus confusion.
