Facebook has promoted head of retail and automotive Stephen Scheeler to the managing director of Australia and New Zealand to replace outgoing MD Will Easton who was promoted to head of emerging markets for Asia Pacific at the end of last month.

Commenting on his promotion Scheeler said in a statement: “There has never been a more interesting time to be in our industry. The pace of change and opportunities to innovate are phenomenal. We have an amazing team here at Facebook, a strong roadmap and a fantastic suite of apps and services. I couldn’t be more excited about the next part of the journey.”

Scheeler joined Facebook in May 2013 and has previously worked for the likes of Westfield, Lion, Subaru and Deloitte.

Dan Neary, vice president, Asia Pacific, Facebook, said in a statement: “I’m a great believer in the Facebook culture of hiring great people and growing their careers throughout the company. Stephen has been a remarkable leader and key part of the established and successful ANZ team. Stephen has done an outstanding job and been responsible for new partnership solutions, local innovations and original thinking.”

Scheeler takes over the role immediately and will report in to Neary.

Facebook has experienced rapid growth in the region in recent years, with Standard Media Index data showing it grew media agency revenues to $101.6m, up 77 per cent on the previous financial year. However the bulk of its revenues are understood to come from direct ad sales, while it is also currently ramping up its Instagram ads offering here.
