Fairfax Media makes Simon Smith MD of new Fairfax Content Marketing
Fairfax Media has made Simon Smith managing director of Fairfax Content Marketing in a newly created role heading a newly created department.
The new division will leverage content across Fairfax Media’s newspapers, magazines, radio, television and online properties.
Greg Hywood, chief executive officer of Fairfax Media recently announced that the company would be making a major new push into content marketing.
“Simon is without doubt the right person to drive the development the business,” he said. “I have been very impressed by Simon’s depth of understanding of the opportunity and his clear vision for the business.”
Smith joined Fairfax Media as commercial director of the former Financial Review Group in 2010 and was given a newly created position as media solutions director in June.
Hywood said Smith has successfully created and developed a number of innovative commercial projects outside of traditional publishing revenue streams, such as as the Financial Review’s Women of Influence Awards and the AFR’s Sunday television show on Channel Nine. Smith also developed the GE Capital Momentum Series of industry events and awards for mid-market companies, and online industry news site Australia 2.0.
Smith, who has more than 20 years of media experience across newspapers, magazines, television, radio and digital, said he is looking forward to driving Fairfax’s future success.
“With many organisations devoting a large proportion of their marketing budgets to content creation, Fairfax Media is ideally positioned to lead the industry as the trusted source of quality information and provider of content creation services,” he said.
