First day-night test proves hit for Nine with Australia victory dominating the weekend’s TV

The first ever day-night test match helped Nine to a bumper audience across the weekend with 1.670m metro viewers tuning in as Australia snatched a narrow victory in the third session of the third day, which started at 7.30pm AESDT.

That helped Nine to an audience share of 29.2 per cent for the day after 758,000 tuned into the first session of the day, growing to 1.222m for session two at around 5pm. Session three was the most-watched show across the key advertising demographics (16-39, 18-49 and 25-54).

The final session on Saturday also broke the 1m audience mark with 1.019m viewers, helping Nine to an audience share of 25.5 per cent for Saturday.

Meanwhile on Sunday, Seven had an audience share of 18.9 per cent cent, Ten managed a share of 10.2 per cent and the ABC settled for a share of 9.4 per cent.

Seven’s Sunday Night, airing from 7pm, was watched by 935,000, up on last week’s audience of 850,000.

Ten’s The Biggest Loser Families at 7.30pm pulled in 643,000, a slight increase on last week’s efforts of  623,000.

Seven’s The Force – Behind the Line grabbed 706,000 at 8pm, with 683,000 sticking around for a second episode at 8.30pm. Audience numbers dived at 9pm with 404,000 tuning in for Quantico.

On the ABC, Doctor Who at 7.40pm was watched by 455,000, down on last week’s audience of 481,000. In time-shifted viewing, last week’s episode of Dr Who grabbed an extra 175,000 to take its total audience to 657,000.

In the news battleground, Nine News grabbed 1.459m viewers while Seven News was watched by 1.264m.

On pay TV, SoHo’s A Place to Call Home was watched by 163,000 national viewers.
