ANZ has confirmed Carolyn Bendall has been appointed to the role of permanent general manager of marketing, while her predecessor Karen Donaldson is to take up the head of marketing role at Coles’ financial services division.

Bendall’s promotion was confirmed earlier this week. She replaces Karen Donaldson who left late last year after three years as the ANZ’s chief marketer.  In her new role Donaldson takes the title of Coles’ general manager of loyalty and financial services marketing. It is unclear whether this is a new position at the supermarket giant.

A spokesman for ANZ told Mumbrella: “Carolyn Bendall was appointed on February 17 as head of marketing, Australia, effective immediately.

“Carolyn has been acting in this role since late last year and throughout her twenty plus year career with ANZ has held roles in institutional, corporate, commercial and retail market segments in both Australia and New Zealand with broad responsibility across a number of marketing disciplines.”

The ANZ is currently searching for a replacement for Bendall’s role of head of consumer marketing, the spokesman confirmed.

According to Nielsen, banking giant ANZ spent $56m on main media between July 2012-June 2013. Its agency roster includes PHD as its media agency and Whybin/TBWA Melbourne as its creative agency.

Coles’ spending in the same period, through parent company Wesfarmers, was $248m but that was across the group of supermarkets, insurance, liquor stores and the Flybuys rewards scheme. There is no available breakdown on the media spend of Coles loyalty and financial services division.

Its agencies include UM at its media agency, and Big Red and The Royals in creative.
