Barnett: moving media agency side with Bohemia

Independent media agency Bohemia has appointed former senior Mi9 and Mamamia executive as its chief operating officer, Mumbrella can reveal.

Barnett has previously held the commercial director/COO role at Nine’s digital division Mi9 and also the COO of Mamamia Women’s Network.

Brett Dawson, managing partner said Barnett would be tasked with an operations role, with Barnett having driven Nine’s programmatic offering in his time there.

Dawson said: “Marc fits the ask perfectly. He has lived and breathed the growth and success of ninemsn/Mi9.

“He has been driving the evolution of how we plan and buy media and he is a top guy who will nurture and grow every Bohemian in the business.

“The COO is a new position that I am confident will elevate productivity and quality of output in all aspects of our business.”

Bohemia has had a speedy rise, since its launch in 2011, the agency picked up the likes of Quick Service Restaurants, Aspen Pharmaceuticals and Vodafone in quick succession before winning top tier Lion – beers, spirits and wine’s media account in 2014.

This year has seen a quieter year with the agency focusing on bedding in clients, with smaller wins including: Twitter, News.com.au, Caltex and Unibet.

Barnett has worked in a variety of digital roles over his 12 years of experience including APAC sales director with Microsoft, general manager of Microsoft Media Network and was the launch chairman of Mi9/Fairfax programmatic exchange APEX.

On his shift to media agency side Barnett said: “The opportunity to join Bohemia at this pivotal stage of its life cycle is incredibly exciting and I look forward to helping guide the business out of adolescence and into adulthood. I am very pleased to have found a leadership team to join that is so closely aligned to my own personal values and who puts the needs of staff and clients at the forefront.”

The appointment is effective from January 4, with Barnett splitting his time for the remainder of 2015 between Bohemia and pre-existing consulting work.
