Foul-mouthed kid promotes Ikea kitchens

Ikea is to launch a radio ad tomorrow in which a child uses expletives to describe his school holidays thanks to a bad experience his parents have had when fitting a kitchen. “Get a kitchen installed without teaching your kids new words,” reads the narrator in the ad.

The ad was created by Three Drunk Monkeys, which won the business in December last year.

Jude Leon, Ikea’s PR manager, said: “Ikea wanted to have some fun and acknowledge that installing a kitchen can often be a truly frustrating experience. We wanted to bring to life the messaging that Ikea can help people plan, deliver and install a kitchen, whilst avoiding teaching their kids colourful, new words”.

The 30-second spot debuts around the better homes and gardens segment on the ARN radio network. Magazine, online and outdoor activity will run in support.

  14. The ad is good, however the female VO saying “get F#$%ing started at Ikea.com.au” is unneccesary and not ‘on brand’ – this should have been dropped

  16. Great work! Love it. But I do agree with Anon that they didn’t need the final VO with the female swearing.

  18. Nowhere near as offensive as the new RACV with that monster-eyebrowed calamity of annoyance speaking with his punchable mouth full of donut.

  20. The ad is ridiculous, cheap, and has ensured I will never set foot in an Ikea store again. Having said that, it is very fitting for the lack of quality of the goods that Ikea sells so I guess the add is perfect for the product. Crappy company, crappy goods, crappy ad. They suit each other.

  24. ‘Nunya Business’ ohhh I JUST got it, you’re making a pun, good one! How is this ad, ridiculous? or cheap? It’s a radio ad, did you expect some 3D did you? and you spelled ‘add’ wrong. Such a crappy company too, which is why it has stores all over the world. People like you are ruining this industry!
