Foxtel channels soon to be available through XBox 360 consoles
Foxtel and Microsoft have announced a deal that will allow XBox 360 users to view pay TV channels over the internet using its service, XBox Live.
Dubbed Foxtel by Xbox Live in Australia, it will see the pay TV operator’s subscribers have access to Foxtel channels including Fox Sports, Discovery, Nickelodeon, Disney and MTV. It will also provide a range of video-on-demand services, including television series and movies.
The new service is due to launch later this year and provides Foxtel with a new distribution channel. It means that consumers will be able to access Foxtel without the need for a set-top-box.
David McLean, Microsoft Australia head of entertainment and devices, said: “Last year alone, Australians spent more than 106 million hours on Xbox Live including gaming and social networking. With this Foxtel partnership, there are more reasons than ever to connect your Xbox 360 to our online service.”
Kim Williams, Foxtel CEO, added: “This is a very exciting new frontier. Foxtel by Xbox Live will provide our 1.6 million subscribing households, as well as new customers, a transformative way of receiving and enjoying Foxtel over the internet. We will offer Foxtel by Xbox Live with various packages and prices and under flexible agreements.”
Packages, pricing and the full channel line-up is yet to be revealed.
Great, but you’d want to be with one of the ISPs that allow unmetered Xbox Live access. I’d go through my monthly bandwidth allowance in a couple of days!

I imagine if you have an XBOX and are willing to pay for Xbox gold subscription then a Foxtel by Xbox subscription….you would probably already have foxtel…no?

@MJ
Probably for most people, but I am on a naked DSL service, so foxtel is unavailable. Which makes foxtel on XBOX very interesting. I know a couple of guys in the same situation.

Why does a Naked DSL service make Foxtel unavailable?
I have Naked DSL and Foxtel.

This may not be the case, but if you search the Whirlpool forums you’ll find there were issues with needing an analogue line for certain services.
