Pay TV company Foxtel has shed two of its senior staff as new chief operating officer Rohan Lund implements an overhaul of the pay-TV network.

Rebecca Heap and Kym Niblock have both taken redundancies and left the company as Lund, who joined in October after leaving a similar role at Seven West Media in September, has led a reordering of the broadcasting technology and product group, Mumbrella understands.

Niblock had been the general manager of emerging platforms at Foxtel, in charge of its IPTV and online digital development strategy, and Heap was director of content partnerships for the company.

Part of Lund’s brief in the new role was to look at the structure of the company, and focus on innovation.

Niblock oversaw, managed and developed all of the broadband and IPTV services for Foxtel since she joined the company in November 2011. She launched Foxtel’s IPTV option Foxtel Play in August, as well as catchup TV app Foxtel Go, and the 2012 Olympics app which was the top free app in the App Store with more than 135,000 downloads during the Games.

Niblock was also said to be directing the development of new innovations for Foxtel, ahead of the launch of its streaming service Presto on March 13, and was due to speak about her role at the the Connected Entertainment Summit in Melbourne next week in her capacity as Foxtel’s general manager of emerging platforms. She has more than 20 years’ of international media experience including roles with BBC Worldwide, MTV, Nickelodeon and BSkyB.

Heap is understood to have departed on Friday after some of the functions reporting to her were moved into Lund’s domain, minimising her role.

She had joined Foxtel in July 2012, after working with Austar as general manager of strategy and programming for more than seven years. She had previously been a senior business analyst at management consultancy AT Kearney.

A spokesperson for Foxtel confirmed: “Foxtel has decided to restructure some of its functions and that as a result there have been a small number of redundancies one of which was Rebecca Heap. We are sad to lose her and she goes with our every best wish.”
