The announcement:

July 27, 2011 –

Future Publishing Australia has unveiled an extensive new look for its market-leading unofficial PlayStation title, PSM3 Magazine Australia&NZ. The changes will usher in a new era for a magazine which has firmly established itself on newsstands over the last two years. A comprehensive redesign will be complemented by a sharper editorial focus and a bolder approach to gaming coverage and the industry.

The new look will provide readers with “Smarter PlayStation Gaming”, with changes including a new masthead plus new sections and layouts. The content will be brought to life by the incorporation of QR codes, which readers can scan using smartphones to see exclusive videos and supplementary content from the wider world of PlayStation.

Editor Shaun Prescott says: “It’s an exciting time for PSM3 Australia&NZ. The refreshed layouts better reflect our focus on longform, in-depth feature writing, and we’ll give the best advice on new and forthcoming PS3 titles in a style which is both honest and unflinching, combining great access, assets and practical advice in a fantastic environment. But what’s really exciting is that the magazine’s content will be live, because the integrated QR codes in the pages of the magazine provide access to linked and relevant digital content via the scan of a smartphone. We’re bringing our print content to life online. It really is about ‘Smarter PlayStation Gaming’”

Creative Director Jason Lyon added, “We’ve worked hard to make the look and feel relevant to the local market, and certainly the new sections feel really contemporary, and are designed with both audience and advertisers in mind. What we have now is a clean, stylish and contemporary design throughout and the new sections also reflect the fact that gaming is about entertainment.”

The relaunch will hit newsstands nationally on Friday August 5. Featuring EA’s Battlefield 3 on the cover, the issue has increased pagination, a free 64 page mini-book, and a newly designed double-sided HD DVD cover mount, and still only $9.95.
