Good Oil’s Michael Spiccia-directed Yardbird is Cannes bound

A short film directed by Australian commercials director Michael Spiccia has been selected for the Cannes Film Festival.

Yardbird, produced by Jessica Mitchell and written by Julius Avery, is the story of a young girl who takes on bullies that torment her father.

The film was produced by Buffalo Films and Bridle Path Films in association with Good Oil Films.

Spiccia said: “This is such a thrill and an absolute honour. I cannot wait to share this experience with my partners and fellow directors in Cannes.”

Spiccia directed Commonwealth Bank’s Centennial TVC for Goodby, Silverstein & Partners as well as Crown Lager’s ‘time’ ad for Droga5.

Avery also wrote and directed short film Jerrycan which won the Cannes Jury Prize  in 2008.
