Australian Good Taste magazine to close ahead of launch of Taste magazine
News Limited’s food magazine for Woolworths, Australian Good Taste, is to cease publication.
The move comes seven months after News Limited’s lifestyle arm NewsLifeMedia announced the closure of MasterChef Magazine and a month since the company said that it would be extending its online brand Taste with the launch of a new magazine title to launch in September.
The August edition of Australian Good Taste will be the title’s last.
According to the joint announcement from Woolworths and NewsLifeMedia: “Woolworths will continue to focus on its popular and free Fresh magazine which is published by NewsLifeMedia’s custom division on behalf of the retailer.”
Nicole Sheffield, MD of NewsLifeMedia, said: “Australian Good Taste is a wonderful title and we have enjoyed a very successful relationship with Woolworths. Closing a title is never easy, however we have jointly chosen to explore new opportunities going forward.”
The statement said: “NewsLifeMedia is endeavouring to redeploy all staff affected. NewsLifeMedia recently announced the launch of taste.com.au magazine which will be ranged nationally across newsagents, all major supermarkets and independents.”
If they’re going to put strawberries on top of that beef pie on the cover then no wonder it shut.

In this digitally focussed world, where traditional magazine publishers are taking a bit of a beating, there has been little discussion on impact of digital publishing on the custom publishing industry.
Is the beginning of a long drawn out end for ‘traditional’ custom publishing?

Well, tomatoes are technically a fruit anyway; so although I was wrong, I wasn’t that wrong.

It’s a shame they’ve given up on GOOD Taste in favour of just… Taste.

Oh crap. I get the digital version on ipad, and it’s a really good magazine. Much better than the Coles version.

Taste sources its material from a variety of magazines… It’ll be interesting whether they end up licensing some of that content for print and becoming a hard-copy aggregator, or whether they’ll actually develop their own recipes.

That’s a shame as it was one of the best in category, no where near GT but it was never going to be.

What a shame. First they canned Masterchef, now this has been cancelled.
Taste has some nice recipes but not to the same degree of challenge.
Anyone can open a can or packet of pre mix, but it is an art to cook and prepare from scratch
