The greatest quotes of Seven’s Bruce McWilliam
Dr Mumbo feels sympathy for his fellow journalists at Seven who were raided by the Australian Federal Police yesterday. It even led that august organ for press freedom Studio Ten to ask “Is it the end of press freedom in Australia”. Hard hitting stuff.
However, like much of the rest of the industry he has also enjoyed many of Seven commercial director Bruce McWilliam quotes on the raid.
Here are a collection of Dr Mumbo’s favourites:
Firstly there was the description of the raid on New Idea and its editor Kim Wilson. Which saw McWilliam give The Australian this gem:
“Poor Kim Wilson . . . had all her fabric samples pushed aside while they sought evidence of criminal offences in her office,” commercial director Bruce McWilliam said.
Over at Ninemsn they were quoting Bruce describing the AFP as “goons”:
“You’ve got some heavy-handed goon who thinks they can just come storming in and terrorise people who are trying to carry on their duties.”
While in an afternoon press conference McWilliam describing it as a crazy fishing expedition.
“The public have to pay for this crazy fishing expedition…”
However Dr Mumbo’s favourite quote has to be the one he gave The Guardian:
“Over 20 of them turned up today. They are in my office now. I didn’t even have a chance to tidy it up. I asked them if I could tidy up and they didn’t like it at all.”
It does make Dr Mumbo wonder if Bruce quite understand how the whole search warrant/raid works…
The question we should be asking is why the AFP feel the need to turn up with guns. It’s crazy and scary for those involved. 20 burly officers is suits with badges would do the job you would think. Waste of money to find nothing. Not to mention their intel is so bad they went to the wrong office.

To be honest.. this is not funny. The government stamp into offices of the free media without any REAL reasoning.
If this level of policing was put into place in investigating corrupt governments and dodgy politicians things might actually improve, instead our freedoms get reduced once again.
The Australian government is breaking international law with its refugee policy, id like to see the AFP investigate THAT!

Dear What,
Are you kidding? It was the AFP aka ‘Australian Federal Police’; notice the ‘P’ word – it means they can bring their guns. They weren’t shoving them in their faces, just simply wearing ‘their’ uniform. To serve & protect kinda thing!
Bigger question is why seven thinks they are above the law, glad they are being checked – the interview should never be taking place!! I’d do 9 years jail to be paid over $200K a year!!

These quotes are hilarious! I hope they are being taken with the punch of salt they should be! Top work bruce!
