Greg Ellis quits as CEO of REA Group for ‘overseas’ role

Greg EllisOnline property sales group REA has confirmed its CEO and managing director Greg Ellis has handed in his resignation and is set to pursue an “overseas appointment at a non-competitive organisation”.

In his five years in the role Ellis has seen the group flourish, becoming the dominant player in online property with the Realestate.com.au brand the biggest in the country, and the overall group the biggest floated media property in Australia.

He said in a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange this morning: “I’ve always said it is the people at REA Group that sets the company apart from other businesses.

“This has been the key to the group’s accelerated performance over the past few years and I am confident that we have the right team in place to lead the future growth of the company.”

The company, which is majority owned by News Corp, is now looking for a replacement for Ellis.

Ellis came to REA Group after a seven month stint as head of marketing for Microsoft in Asia, and spent five years as head of the Sensis Interactive group at Telstra from 200o to 2005.

Chairman Hamish McLennan said: “On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Greg for his outstanding service to the business.Greg and his team have delivered record results and we believe that our strategy is well-poised to build on our strong market position. We wish Greg the very best of luck with his future endeavours.

“I have full confidence in our leadership team and the talented group of individuals at REA Group and we look forward to the continued roll out of our strategy in FY14 and beyond.”
