Helpful Harold

Nice to see that Harold Mitchell – boss of Mitchell Communication Group – is using his weekly column in the Sydney Morning Herald only for good.

A fortnight ago, his rivals at WPP were lucky enough to have him dedicate his column to offering the benefit of his experience. His advice to Group M negotiating boss James Parkinson was that media owners were “reacting badly to being treated like an underclass”. He advised:

“For Group M, Parkinson’s Law as applied to negotiation is not working.”

Dr Mumbo is certain that Parkinson will have found the advice a useful insight.

And today, Harold is being generous with his advice for his rivals again. This time he’s got some financial analysis for Henry Tajer of Universal McCann. Helpfully, he’s been running the numbers and reports: “Tajer’s company dropped 21 per cent in billings last year – no bull.”

That’s the thing about Harold – he’s always giving.

  6. Harold Mitchell reminds me of Grandpa Simpson… “So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on ‘em. “Give me five bees for a quarter,” you’d say”
