High-risk heist appears to be focus of new Lexus wingsuit ad from M&C Saatchi

A high-stakes car jacking appears to be the focus of a well-crafted new Lexus ad starring one of the world’s foremost wingsuit pilots Jeb Corliss.

According to the press release accompanying the new ad, created by M&C Saatchi, it is supposed to represent the car brand’s “belief in a confident new mindset”, with the ad following Corliss as he jumps from 12,000 feet in his wingsuit before landing on the back of a flatbed trailer carrying the new Lexus RX.

While his accomplice lands in front of the truck forcing it to stop Corliss lands on the back, jumps in the RX and drives it off.

The new film will run on TV, cinema and digital, while the campaign also enjoys a large social media element. On its launch the company has also taken out a Youtube masthead ad inviting people to view the ad in a 360 video format.

It is also backed by a behind the scenes making of video and a three-part web documentary on Corliss as a content strategy.

“I’ve been a Lexus driver for over seven years, so when Lexus Australia approached me to come up with a brave and challenging way to get behind the first RX in Australia, I was excited to push limits and take viewers of the film alongside me through a virtual reality rig,” said Corliss in the release.

Media is handled by The Media Store while the film and virtual reality experience were created by Rapid VR and Google.

“It took a brave client to step forward and set up delivery of their first RX in such a daring way. In taking a risk and creating this content, Lexus has produced iconic work with a fresh and unique brand perspective,” said Andy Dilallo, M&C Saatchi Sydney chief creative officer.

According to the release the shoot included four cameras and Corliss’ rig and was shot by a 60-person crew with the jump taking two months to plan and was shot over three days near Goulburn in NSW last month. The jump was successful at the third attempt.
