Host picks up Tooheys following pitch

tooheys-corporate-logoLion Australia has appointed Host to work on its Tooheys beer brand following a pitch process.

Host joins BMF and Ogilvy on the Lion panel of agencies after Lion handed its Hahn account to Ogilvy in December.

Matt Tapper, national marketing director for Lion Beer, Spirits & Wine Australia, said: “The pitching process was extremely competitive and in the end we chose the agency whose ideas aligned with our ultimate vision: to drive the growth of our brands and the beer category as a whole.

“Throughout the process Host was incredibly consistent and held true to their values. We are really looking forward to working with them. They simply presented the best idea.”

For Host the win follows being appointed to handle creative for Pizza Hut in November.

Host CEO Anthony Freedman said: “It’s a great way to start the year joining Lion’s Agency Village on an iconic brand like Tooheys. We are really looking forward to being part of the next chapter in one of Australia’s most loved and famous beers.”

Mumbrella understands Host has been vying for the James Boag’s and James Squire business which was put out to pitch in October.

BMF had done the most recent work on the Tooheys brand, winning several creative awards for its Nocturnal Migration campaign and plaudits for its Mateship drive.

However last year’s ‘Repay your mouth’ campaign by the agency prompted complaints to the Ad Standards Bureau because over ‘sexist’ content.
