House Rules fightback sees it outrate The Block for first time
Seven’s House Rules has had its first major breakthrough, beating Nine’s catchup episode of The Block in its 8pm timeslot.
The Block Unlocked rated 821,000 according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTAM. House Rules rated 898,000. It is the first time House Rules has fared better than The Block when both shows have been on air at once.
However, the main episode of The Block, which aired at 7pm, did better for Nine, averaging 1.073m.
Meanwhile, ABC’s consumer show The Checkout was also competitive in the 8pm timeslot, rating 819,000.
Nine narrowly won the night with a share of 23.2 per cent. Seven was just behind on 22.2 per cent and Ten delivered a 12.8 per cent share. ABC1 was on 12.3 per cent.
Earlier in the day, Sunrise and Today had a close battle, with Sunrise (369,000) coming out just ahead of Today’s 358,000.

do you work for Seven ??
is this really a valid piece of media news ?
that a new show just gets a few numbers more than highlights show ??
surely Seven have enough spin doctors of their own
Is this really a fightback or a major break through ? really ? really ?
cos if it is I think the wet paperbag still wins over House Rules !
talk about grasping at any kind of result lol

I don’t think it would be that hard to win over The Block this time as it is pretty awful. Far too much drama – it has been so boring that even my 9 year old who loved it previously has switched off this series.

Oh please….
7 should worry if a repeat (by part) still provides that volume of audience against a first run episode.
Clever strategy by nine really.

It is nice to see House Rules beat The Block. And by the way Tim you defended youself against our comments the other day about the ratings report being pro Nine. this comment”Sunrise and Today had a close battle, with Sunrise (369,000) coming out just ahead of Today’s 358,000.’. what does close battle mean-11,000 viewers is not a close battle. Also “coming out just ahead of Today’s ” show bias towards Nine!! Enough said!

Hi Chris,
I’ll need John Grono to tell us how many OzTAM boxes in the sample would account for the difference. But in numerical terms, it’s about 3% audience difference. What do you think would count as a close victory?
