House Rules finale drops nearly 700,000 viewers on last year as The Voice wins night

Last night saw 1.295m metro viewers tune in to see Sydney-based father and daughter Steve and Tiana Falzon crowned the winners of Seven’s House Rules, with the show’s grand final watched by 1.097m.

The winner announcement was down on last year’s which saw 1.988m metro viewers tune in. However it was well up on the show’s debut, which saw it grab 791,000 despite the show being road-blocked across all Seven’s channels.

While it was not enough to win in the competitive 7.30pm timeslot, with Nine’s The Voice taking home that crown with a metro audience of 1.362m, it did out-rate Ten’s Masterchef which saw 1.07m metro viewers tune in to see advertising creative Sara Oteri ousted in its final week. 

Masterchef was the most-watched show amongst key advertising demographics 16-39 and 18-49 while The Voice was the most-watched show amongst people aged 25-54.

Nine won the night with an audience share of 22.4 per cent just ahead of Seven’s share of 21.1 per cent. The ABC claimed third place with a share of 14.9 per cent as Ten settled for a share of 14.3 per cent.

In the 9pm timeslot, Nine’s Lip Sync Battle shed over 200,000 viewers, dipping to 799,000 metro viewers after posting a metro audience of 1.036m last week.

Ten’s Have You Been Paying Attention?, airing at 8.30pm, was watched by 631,000 while Nine’s Hotel Hell, on at 9.45pm, pulled in 601,000.

On the ABC, 7.30 was watched by 699,000,  Australian Story (8pm) pulled in 746,000, Four Corners (8.30pm) grabbed 695,000 metro viewers, Media Watch (9.20pm) had an audience of 720,000 metro viewers, and Q&A (9.30pm) attracted a crowd of 776,000.

In the news, Nine News won the night with a 6pm audience of 1.3m, dipping to 1.247m from 6.30pm. Seven News at 6pm pulled in 1.061m, sliding to 1.034m from 6.30pm.

In breakfast Seven’s Sunrise held off Today wih 334,000 metro viewers to 322,000, according to OzTam overnight metro ratings.
