Nine’s’s airing of The Hunger Games on Go last night helped the secondary channel to an unusually strong 7.5 per cent audience share.

The 2012 film averaged 406,000 metro viewers – an extremely high number for a secondary channel.

Ina fragmented night of TV viewing, Seven was the only channel to deliver more than a 20% share – pulling in 21.2 per cent. This was primarily driven by reality contest House Rules, which was top for the night, rating just under 1.4m metro viewers, according to preliminary overnight ratings from OzTAM.

Seven’s US sitcom The Goldbergs fared less well, rating 630,000.

The Goldbergs was beaten in its timeslot by Ten’s romantic drama Offspring which rated 865,000.

Nine’s triple bill of The Big Bang Theory rated 760,000, 787,000 and 649,000.

Ten’s cooking contest Masterchef rated 899,000, eighth for the night amongst all people.

In the key advertising battleground of 25-54, House Rules was most watched show, with Offspring and Masterchef second and third.. Hunger Games was 17th, making a rare appearance for a secondary channel program to be inthe top 20

Nine’s main channel averaged 16.9 per cent , just ahead of Ten’s 14.7 per cent. ABC1 rated 11.3 per cent.

Seven’s two secondary channels also had strong nights – delivering 5 per cent and 4.3 per cent.

Nine’s other secondary channel Gem averaged 3.8 per cent.

The digital choices did nothing to help SBS1 which averaged just 3.5 per cent for its evening of World Cup skewed content.

In Adelaide and Perth, SBS1 was one of the least watched networks with a share of just 2.4 per cent, beaten by most secondary channels including ABC2, 7Two, 7Mate, Go, Gem, One and Eleven. Go averaged 9.2 per cent in Adelaide and 8.9 per cent in perth.
