Hey John Grono, this guy has really got up your nose. Are you just a leftist that hates America and corporates, or do you want to be on the Council for something?

The guy is in his early twenties, with clearly a lot of talent, trying out a few different things. Build a bridge. Go watch that speech again. Then Google it. The US media are calling it the “greatest speech by an international on American soil, since Churchill’s Iron Curtain.” This guy represents your municipality. You should be proud, not tall poppy cutting and jealous.

And anyway, if you are pushing a political barrow, don’t do it here through this forum. Run against the bloke or something.

Well Gavin, more on the payroll than the council since his barn-storming US tour commenced as he hasn’t been to something like the last seven council meetings. But I have it on good authority that he will be back for the December 8 council meeting so that he can continue the Americanisation of our lovely heritage suburb of Haberfield by voting in favour of the opening of a 24/7 drive-through McDonald’s.

If more Australian politicians spoke like this guy, we might actually transcend the whole I am Labor, I am Liberal… I agree about him staying in America- for his own sake- I’d say his talents are far more appreciated in their culture and political system than ours… no wonder he’s over there…

@John Grono But are you saying that you don’t care whether our politicians are great orators? I mean, come on, he does have an extraordinary gift- politics is all about the gift of the gab…. not one of our past or recent Australian politicians have had these kind of oratory skills… and here is some young guy- how old is he? 26, 27? doing it… and why don’t we have so-called stump speeches here?

I think in general in Australian politics with the loyalty to a party, we seem to not give a stuff about public speaking here.. look at Rudd, Howard, Turnbull.. none particularly talented… we just vote the way we always have. Maybe it says soemthing about our culture… a gift of speaking in a place like America probably propels you into the big stage, here, we just don’t seem to care….
