Ikon Communications on alert as petrol giant Caltex Australia pitches its media account

Screen Shot 2015-08-17 at 4.12.47 pmPetrol chain Caltex is pitching its $5.2m media account in a move which places incumbent Ikon on alert, Mumbrella can reveal.

It is understood the pitch process has already begun with a number of other agencies thought to be in the mix.

A spokesman for Caltex declined to comment on the pitch.

“Caltex’s contracts and agreements are commercial-in-confidence and we do not provide details on these arrangements,” said the Caltex spokesman.

The last couple of years have been difficult for Ikon Communications with the agency having lost several key accounts including Vodafone, Coca-Cola, RACV WA and Diageo, last year it also successfully defended its foundation client Commonwealth Bank in a competitive pitch.

Earlier this year, James Greet CEO of Ikon departed the media agency with the various offices restructured to have a managing partner in each of its Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane offices.

Subsequently fellow STW agencies Moon and Shift were rolled into it in a bid to make it a full-service offering in Sydney.

Nielsen puts the media spend in the 12 months to July 2015 at $5.2m.
