Insight nearly doubles audience for heavily promoted marijuana special

Last night’s SBS Insight special looking at the legalisation of marijuana nearly doubled its audience with 265,000 viewers, up from 167,0000 last week in the wake of an advertising campaign in Sydney and Melbourne.

It came on a night when Nine’s renovation show The Block again topped the Oztam metro overnight ratings with an audience of 1.39m viewers in the 7.30pm slot, while Big Brother also saw its audience improve on last week with 677,000 people tuning in to watch Lisa Clark evicted from the house. The shows were one and two across all the demographics.

On Seven the second episode of Dancing with the Stars was down on its debut falling to 882,000 from 1.04m last week, its lowest ever audience which saw the main channel’s audience share drop back 2.5 per cent on last week to 20.4.

However, the TV network did win the news battle with Seven News winning both the 6pm and 6.30pm slots with an audience of 1.061m and 1.033m respectively, while Nine News could not crack the million mark with 982,000 and 935,000 viewers.

For Ten two new episodes of NCIS and new series NCIS New Orleans were among the network’s best performing shows pulling an audience of 788,000 people in the 8.30pm slot and 633,000 in the 9.30pm slot, while Jamie’s Comfort Food at 7.30pm had 495,000 viewers against The Block and DWTS.

The Project carried a follow-up interview with ditched Bachelor contestant Sam Frost, but couldn’t repeat its record audience for the exclusive the night before with 469,000 viewers for the 6.30pm rising to 667,000 for the 7pm half hour.

Nine won the night in terms of audience share on its main channel with 21.3 per cent, Seven was close behind on 20.4 per cent while Ten had a solid rise to 15.4 per cent, from 12.9 per cent last week, on the back of the performance of NCIS.

SBS had a 4.2 per cent share on its main channel, up 0.5 per cent on last week, while the ABC had 11 per cent.
