Jerry Seinfeld dropped in latest ad for Greater Building Society
Greater Building Society has dispensed with brand spokesman Jerry Seinfeld in its latest campaign to celebrate the ‘greater moments’ in life.
The company’s spokesman John Church told Mumbrella: “Jerry’s contract expired. It was a three-year deal that was renewed on an annual basis. But the market has changed, business has changed, and we wanted to take a fresh slice-of-life approach.”
“The campaign with Jerry was enormously successful, we saw terrific growth over those three years. The Seinfeld campaign did what it needed to do in building awareness for our brand. Job done,” he added.
The latest ad, created by ad agency Loud, was directed by Scott Pickett through Jungleboys.
Seinfeld’s last outing for Greater Building Society came in May last year in which he wrestled with a crocodile, rolled around in on a sand dune and hacked through a jungle with a machete.
The latest campaign also involves radio, cinema, online, point of sale and bus backs in support of TV.
“Through research we have identified that the Greater Building Society has a very close, familiar relationship with its customers. A relationship that is as strong, if not stronger, than any other financial services provider in Australia,” said Lorraine Jokovic, CEO of Loud. “We set out to develop a creative strategy that recognised this tight relationship by demonstrating The Greater’s devotion to its customers.”
Joe Van Trump, creative director at Loud added: “To accentuate the emotion of each moment, we shot using the slow motion technique filming on a WEISSCAM camera that can shoot to incredibly high frame rates per second, sometimes up to 2000 frames per second.”

I rather like the ad. It’s hard to make a connection between financial services and reality and this does it well. The first Seinfeld commercials were great, but I think they were getting a bit naff towards the end. This is just plain lovely – made me smile, made me laugh. You can’t ask for much more.
