John Chouiefate to lead Ten’s news bulletins

Choueifate: national news boss

Choueifate: national news boss

Former Today Tonight boss John Choueifate has been put in charge of Ten Eyewitness News, the TV network has announced.

Chouiefate, known across the industry as Choof, joined Ten late last year as director of news for Sydney.

He exited Seven last year after being off work for several months through sick leave.

Chouiefate takes on the new role as the bulletin moves to more national content following a series of redundancies among local teams.

According to the announcement, Choueifate will report in to executive director of news and current affairs Peter Meakin, who also previously worked at Seven. Choof will also run the national weekend bulletin.

Meakin was brought in to Ten last year, with former Ten news and current affairs head Anthony Flannery departing a few months later.

Meakin said: “I have worked with John at three separate networks and he thoroughly deserves this promotion. He is a fine journalist and an excellent manager.”

Choueifate previously worked as chief of staff and foreign editor at Ten, as well as senior roles at Nine and Seven.
