WPP global planning director Jon Steel to give keynote at Mumbrella Perth

One of the world’s most respected strategists Jon Steel will give the keynote address at the first Mumbrella Perth conference in February.

Steel is the global group planning director for the world’s biggest advertising holding group WPP, as well as the chief strategy officer and vice-chairman of advertising agency George Patterson Y&R.

In a decorated career he was the first director of planning for renowned ad agency Goodby. Silverstein and Partners in San Francisco, spending a decade at the agency where he became a partner and vice-chairman.

Mumbrella PerthAt the event on February 25 he will be asking has our industry finally jumped the shark – looking at whether the current obsessions with social media and digital marketing is coming at the expense of long-term customer relationships and results.

He joins the likes of Cummins & Partners strategy boss Adam Ferrier, MNet CEO Travis Johnson, Nine Network Perth head David Mott and West Australian Newspapers CEO Chris Wharton at the event on February 25.

His current role is to provide strategic and creative direction for WPP’s clients, which includes some of the biggest brands in the world.

Steel is also a published author, with books on developing ideas – Truth, Lies and Advertising – and selling them – Perfect Pitch – and he runs the WPP Fellowship, an elite international graduate recruitment and training program.
