The announcement:

The Account Planning Group (APG) today announces Jon Steel, vice chairman and chief strategy officer of GPY&R, as Chairman of Judges for the APG’s Creative Strategy Awards 2010.

The APG Creative Strategy Awards aim to establish recognition of the central role a great planner plays in inspiring and guiding the development of great ideas. It recognises achievements from account planners across four categories, including the recently added channel strategy category.

Jeremy Nicholas, head of the APG welcomed Jon to the Committee. “Jon is without doubt one of the best strategic brains in our industry and we’re really thrilled to announce him as Chairman of Judges for the APG Awards. The awards are dedicated to uncovering the link between strategic thinking and great creative – as one of the world’s best planners, Jon is expertly placed to lead the judging challenge this year.”

Jon Steel said: “It’s great to be involved with the APG Awards in Australia, having previously judged in both the US and UK. These awards are important for both our industry and the planning discipline, in showing how smart and creative thinking from planners can be the catalyst for great campaigns.

I’m also very encouraged to see channel strategy included this year – in my opinion the best planning has always been about understanding and influencing relationships with both brands and media, and it’s good to see that being recognized in these awards.”

The APG Creative Strategy Awards are now open for entry; the deadline is 16 September 2010. The award night will take place on Thursday 25 November in Sydney.
