Journalists on Myer LA junket accused of hiding bust-up involving store boss
Journalists who enjoyed generous Myer hospitality ona US trip failed to report on a public confrontation involving boss Bernie Brookes, Sydney Morning Herald columnist Andrew Hornery has suggested.
According to Hornery, who writes the SMH’s Private Sydney column, there was a bust-up between Brookes and promoter Andrew McManus at the G’Day LA promotion which almost turned physical.
Hornery said the incident was “witnessed by many people in the room – not that you would be reading about it elsewhere. Myer paid for several journalists from other newspapers to fly from Australia to LA, complete with upgrades and swish hotel suites, to cover the event. Strangely each of them appeared to miss the biggest scoop of the night.”
Myer is also a major advertiser, particularly in print and TV.

Perhaps some journos simply don’t see the point of circulating scurrilous news which is of no public interest when it will only hurt people and damage their relationships? Maybe.

Myer flew Aussie journalists on a junket to the US for this G’Day LA promo? I hope that every story they filed carried a declaration or disclosure they they travelled on Myer’s dime, but somehow I doubt it.

Get a life Andrew! Who cares? Your own ethics are questionable and you certainly can’t take the moral highground given all you do all day is look for sensitive information to expose people’s private issues.

What goes on tour stays on tour.
Besides the longer term leverage is worth greatly more than one lame “bust-up” scoop that “almost turned physical”. What’s that – angry voices? Big deal.

If you read the articles from the event you would of seen that it was indeed disclosed Myer had paid for the trip. As for swanky hotels, better check your facts Hornery.
