Jump Street Films forms feature film partnership with Cargo Entertainment

A new production partnership between an Australian distributor and US-based multi-purpose film company will see the development of Australian content, with the first production expected to be announced within weeks.

The partnership will see Australian independent distributor Jump Street Films joining Cargo Entertainment with the partnership to cover finance and production of local films as well as a exclusive local distribution deal between the two.

Jump Street Film’s director Jamie Bialkower told Encore: “We’ll be looking at films north of $5m, between $5-25m.”

“Obviously the whole purpose is to have international viability, that is Cargo’s whole mandate and looking at actors with some sort of brand value to help with presages. the first local film would be announced in the next couple of weeks.

The venture will be headed up Bailkower and Cargo’s head of acquisitions and co-productions Krysanne Katsoolis. Working under a Cargo/Jump Street Production, Bialkower and Katsoolis will produce, with Jump Street Films distributing locally and  Cargo handling international sales.

Jump Street Films was to distribute director Richard Gray’s AFL film Blinder in January but the director is now looking for a new distributor, due to Jump Street Films working with Cargo exclusively.

As well as the local content, Jump Street Films will handle distribution of Cargo’s international slate which includes The Angriest Man in Brooklyn starring Robin Williams and Mila Kunis; Hemingway and Fuentes, directed by Andy Garcia about Ernest Hemingway’s friendship with boat captain Gregorio Fuentes and Zipper, a forthcoming release from producer Darren Aronofsky, starring Ben Kingsley and Billy Bob Thornton.

Jump Street Films distributed Australian film noir Swerve earlier this year.
