The ABC’s new Jungleboys-produced sketch show The Elegant Guide to Knife Fighting rated 448,000 on its debut outing last night, according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTAM.

The show, directed by Jungleboys stable of directors including Wayne Blair, aired at 9pm and beat Nine’s The Mentalist, which ran from 8.45-9.45pm and rated 409,000.

It was also up against Seven’s Criminal Minds and Ten’s Mr & Mrs Murder, which both ran from 8.30-9.30pm and rated 896,000 and 604,000, respectively.

It was again agonisingly close between Australia’s top two breakfast shows, with Nine’s Today beating Seven’s Sunrise by just 1,000 viewers.

Seven’s cooking show My Kitchen Rules was back above 2m after a while hovering well below, rating with 2.089m and winning the night.

Nine News was the second most-watched show in all people, rating with 1.24m, followed by Seven News with 1.188m.

Ten’s top show was Ten News at Five, with 719,000.

The third night of newly relaunched SBS2 saw the network increase its share of total viewing from 0.7 per cent on every night since Sunday, to 0.8 per cent yesterday. But SBS2 did not see a single show feature in the top 100.

More follows later.
