ABC’s Elegant Guide to Knife Fighting rates 448,000 on debut
The ABC’s new Jungleboys-produced sketch show The Elegant Guide to Knife Fighting rated 448,000 on its debut outing last night, according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTAM.
The show, directed by Jungleboys stable of directors including Wayne Blair, aired at 9pm and beat Nine’s The Mentalist, which ran from 8.45-9.45pm and rated 409,000.
It was also up against Seven’s Criminal Minds and Ten’s Mr & Mrs Murder, which both ran from 8.30-9.30pm and rated 896,000 and 604,000, respectively.
It was again agonisingly close between Australia’s top two breakfast shows, with Nine’s Today beating Seven’s Sunrise by just 1,000 viewers.
Seven’s cooking show My Kitchen Rules was back above 2m after a while hovering well below, rating with 2.089m and winning the night.
Nine News was the second most-watched show in all people, rating with 1.24m, followed by Seven News with 1.188m.
Ten’s top show was Ten News at Five, with 719,000.
The third night of newly relaunched SBS2 saw the network increase its share of total viewing from 0.7 per cent on every night since Sunday, to 0.8 per cent yesterday. But SBS2 did not see a single show feature in the top 100.
More follows later.
It was very funny. The best was the skit about the Prius driver. I was laughing my head off. The porn set one was too long but there were some good laughs to be had.

I thought it was clever, but not funny ha ha. Particularly clever is the title – real Monty Python stuff.

congrats to the jungleboys team….
it wasn’t great for an “aussie skit comedy”, it was just great.
well done

Yep I liked it – it nicely balanced on the edge of uncomfortable, without going for easy laughs – between this and Problems, both the ABC and JB are onto a good thing.

I couldn’t wait for this to air but I was really disappointed .
I feel I’m pretty out their but this went over my head and I just looked at my wife and she didn’t get in either.
Australian television needs a good comedy and it’s worth the effort but I feel some of the skits went to long and sadly it was a with a punch that missed.

The Prius driver sketch was without doubt, one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen… Pat Brammel is a crazy talent, and if he’s not in Hollywood movies in the next three years then there’s something (else) wrong with the world.

I liked Elegant Guide a lot.
Along with Sam Simmons, Australia is doing some good absurdist stuff.
Amish IT and Captain Cook were highlights for me. “I drive a Prius” was tops too.

sorry folks but I thought it was as flat as the proverbial. I’m sure they all seem like good ideas at first but they just came out the same bland predictable things. A shame for a first ep, I hope it gets better.

So more people switched on for 9.30 on ABC than watched this show. Would be interested in seeing how much lead in it got from Tractor Monkeys.
