Kylie Blucher to head up Channel Nine Queensland

Kylie Blucher has been appointed to the role of managing director at Channel Nine in Queensland.

The announcement:

Nine Network CEO David Gyngell, on Friday, announced the appointment of Kylie Blucher to the position of Managing Director for Channel Nine Queensland.

Mr Gyngell said the decision reflected a strengthening of the station by redefining its executive roles, which also reinforced Queensland’s importance in the broader media landscape.

“Kylie is an outstanding executive with a distinguished record at Nine and person who’s held in great regard by everyone she deals with in our business” he said.

Mr Gyngell said Ms Blucher, who would step up from her current role as QTQ Programming and Marketing Manager, had held senior management roles within the Nine Network for more than 15 years and had established her credentials as one of Queensland’s most respected media executives.

“Kylie’s understanding of the Queensland market is second to none. She has the empathy required to lead a large, diverse team and the knowledge and passion to drive the Nine Network’s future success in Queensland,” he said.

Ms Blucher would oversee all facets of the operation in Queensland, enabling Lee Anderson to focus solely on building and consolidating Nine News as Queensland’s number one news service.

Kylie Blucher said she was genuinely excited by the opportunity to lead the incredibly talented and passionate team at QTQ. “This restructure will allow QTQ to build on our recent ratings resurgence through a more defined management structure. We have taken some significant steps forward in 2010 through community re-engagement and I look forward to working closely with our clients and the broader corporate market to strengthen relationships within the south-east Queensland market,” she said.

Nine’s Director of Sales and Marketing, Peter Wiltshire, said Les Hart – current Managing Director, Sales & Operations at QTQ – would return to his home town in Sydney to take up the role of Sales Director of Nine’s second digital multi-channel, due to be launched soon.

“Les has given Nine over 20 years of service, and this opportunity is recognition of his dedication and commitment to the company. He has provided strong leadership and stability to our Brisbane operation and it is now time to expand his career in this exciting new role. Les will work alongside Toby Hack who runs sales for Australia’s most successful multichannel, GO! Les will continue managing the Sales team in Brisbane until a replacement is announced,” Mr Wiltshire said.

Les Hart said, “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working in the Sunshine State with the best people in Queensland television and am looking forward to leading the team for our exciting new multi-channel.”

Kylie Blucher will commence as Managing Director as of October 1, 2010.
