Libra ad wins the online lads’ vote

While Mumbrella has not been a fan of the new ad for Libra Invisibles by Clemenger BBDO, it’s fair to say that a portion of the video viewing public is.

Since we uploaded the ad to our YouTube account, it has picked up 35,000 page views, and a five star rating.

And more to the point, it’s also starting to win the ultimate compliment – fan parodies. Sadly by the looks of the comments to date, most of the fans seem to be young men.

And to think we made it The Mumbo Report’s turkey of the week:

  4. C’mon Tim,

Where’s the cynicism?? I say the ‘parodies’ are part of the agency’s efforts.

WAIT – I just checked. The dude seems to have been around for more than a few weeks with other vids, and genuine followers with lots of their own vids. So it appears genuine. Which means this guy did this for real. Wow…

  8. I wish these ads would go away. It may be amusing for bored young guys who like making videos for YouTube – but that’s not the target audience.

  12. I don’t watch television advertising anymore, but it seems nothing has changed in the past decade. Back then, “sanpro” advertising included:

    – the “vagina twins”: two identical twins who needed different size tampons with the implication that their vaginas were different sizes. The actual reason for using different size tampons is for flow rate. Nothing like misinformation for getting in the way of a good fnar fnar bloke joke though.

    – the dumb-bitch life model. Oh! she is so stupid that NOT ONLY DOES SHE FORGET SHE’S WEARING A PAD!!! but she also strips IN THE ARCHITECTURE CLASS NOT THE ART CLASS!!!!111!! Oh! women are of course so DUMB especially ON THEIR PERIODS11!!!!

    – the cat-flap vagina. Here, a slim tampon is compared to a small dog going through a pet-door, compared with a large tampon being some kind of fat squat bulldog that rams into the door and can’t pass through.

Vile, misogynistic, insulting, humiliating, misinformational crap.

  14. Wow, @anon1 those are all pretty shocking… but readers of this site should be paying the most attention to your very first phrase: “I don’t watch television advertising anymore”.

  20. slightly amusing perhaps it is, though I’m not sure what’s the point of marketing a product to men they’re (almost) guaranteed never to buy.

  22. What a surprise. Guys like an ad that, yet again, sells a women’s product by focussing on men.

    Viva la beaver.
