LinkedIn opens Australian office headed by Cliff Rosenberg

LinkedIn, the social networking site for business professionals, has hired its first local employee – former Yahoo 7 managing director Cliff Rosenberg.  

Clifford RosenbergRosenberg will oversee the growth of the business in Australian and New Zealand where the site already has more than 1.1m members.

Rosenberg was most recently chairman of Melbourne-based digital and online marketing agency, Clear Light Digital.

LinkedIn chief executive Jeff Weiner, said: “Establishing our first office in Australia allows us to accelerate our efforts to deliver the best user experience and expand our local partnerships.”

As managing director of LinkedIn’s new operations based in Sydney, Rosenberg’s long-term responsibility will be to grow the company’s business model comprised of user subscriptions, advertising sales and enterprise software licensing for the local market.

In the short term he will be focused on creating strategic partnerships, marketing and general operations.

The LinkedIn web site was launched in 2003 and is the largest professional networking site in the world with more than 52m members representing 200 countries and every Fortune 500 company. The privately held company is based in the US.

Prior to joining Yahoo, Rosenberg was the founder and managing director of iTouch Australia and New Zealand, a wireless application service provider.
