Creativity Online: See Jude Law tapdance in this new Johnnie Walker’s ‘Gentleman’s Wager’ film
Johnnie Walker positions its Blue Label sub-brand as aspirational and stylish in the full-length version of its short film “A Gentleman’s Wager” starring Jude Law and Giancarlo Giannini (a teaser was released earlier this month). Directed by RSA’s Jake Scott, it’s set in the world of the super-wealthy and starts with Mr. Law saying he wants to buy Giannini’s beautiful yacht. While it’s not for sale, Mr. Law insists he wants to win it “with a dance.”
Back in a romantically rain-soaked London, Mr. Law visits his tailor, then puts on a tap dancing cabaret worthy of a Heineken ad to get his friend to change his mind. Of course he succeeds, but the film ends with a hint that future installments are in store.
AdWeek: Twitter revenues surge as it surpasses 270 million monthly users
The tech notable announced its second-quarter performance today, including a 129 percent year-over-year jump in ad revenue to $277 million. Twitter now has 271 million users a month, up from 257 million last quarter. Most people didn’t expect the user base to top 270 million. Its formidable World Cup efforts and expanded advertising initiatives apparently paid dividends.
Though the San Francisco-based social media player is still not making a profit. It lost $145 million despite its best quarterly revenue yet of $312 million, but the results beat most expectations of the company. Wall Street expected Twitter to only do about $280 million in revenue, as more ad dollars are pouring into the platform than expected. Twitter’s stock surged 35 percent due to the earnings.
Mumbrella Asia: Caixin Weekly editor accuses Wall Street Journal of ‘shameless’ plagiarism over Chinese corruption probe story
Gao Yu, the magazine’s deputy editor, said in a post on Weibo that the News Corp-owned newspaper had been “shameless” inits reporting of a story about a corruption investigation that has spread to Canada.
Yu said in the post that the Journal’s story on Monday of this week used “all the important facts” from Caixin’s articles of two weeks prior without attributing or referencing Caixin as the source.
Guardian Media: Is there a Rhianna sex tape doing the rounds on Facebook? No, it’s a malware scam
There is no sex tape of Rihanna and her boyfriend doing the rounds online. You can’t see who’s been looking at your Facebook profile. And you can’t change your Facebook colour either.
This may all sound obvious, but according to antivirus firm Bitdefender, these are the most popular malware scams on the social network in 2014.

New York Times: Boys and Girls Club of America turns to fear in new ad
The spot opens with a shot of a clock in a school that strikes 3, setting off bells throughout the school. Students spill into the halls and out the front doors.
“It’s 3 p.m. — for 50 million kids across America, school’s out,” Mr. Washington says in a voice-over. “For a third of these kids, they’re out on their own, out with nowhere to go, out with nothing to do, out all afternoon when anything can happen.”
“Not even the toilets want to accept the shit that News employees pump out on a daily basis”.
