Mashable to launch Australian operation poaching Jenni Ryall from News.com.au
Technology and social media news website Mashable is to launch an Australian operation and has appointed News.com.au multimedia editor Jenni Ryall as its editor.
The move was announced overnight and also sees the website, founded by Pete Cashmore in 2005, appoint Inception Digital as its Australian media agency of record.
“As our audience of highly engaged, connected readers continues to grow in Australia, we’re excited to expand our footprint into one of our fastest-growing markets,” said Jim Roberts, chief content officer and executive editor of Mashable.
“We look forward to launching our Australia effort under Jenni’s leadership, and with her skills, experience and insight, are confident she’ll make a significant impact on Mashable’s global brand.”
The move comes amid ongoing speculation that other prominent US online websites such as the Huffington Post and Techcrunch will launch in Australia.
Prior to working for News Corp’s news.com.au Ryall was with Yahoo!7.

If the numbers stack up it makes perfect sense for Mashable to join the party. I pre-empted the move yesterday http://bit.ly/1rN1U7w
As Martin Clarke, publisher of Mail Online, said last year: “online everyone is a competitor” continuing “English-language news becomes a global commodity. Born digital news outlets aren’t fettered by the legacy issues of traditional news print operations.
