Masterchef achieves biggest audience of the season with 1.23m

masterchef logoMasterchef last night recorded the highest audience of the season with the TV network getting an audience of 1.23m viewers for its elimination show.

The result saw Ten beat Seven in audience share across the eastern seaboard in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane and with an overall share on its main channel of 19.1 per cent, compared with Seven’s 17 per cent.

Ten’s new 6pm game show Family Feud however was down on previously nights with an audience of 589,000 for its simulcast across Ten, Eleven and One, while its timeslot rival news programs drew 1.15m for Nine News and 1.08m for Seven News. 

The Masterchef masterclass screened at 8.30pm also performed well with the program pulling 1.05m viewers.

Last night also saw Nine screen a special dedicated to injured footballer Alex McKinnon, who suffered a severe neck injury earlier this year. The “Rise for Alex” special drew audiences of 241,000 in Sydney and 140,000 in Brisbane. In Melbourne the AFL version of the Footy Show drew 306,000 viewers.

On the ABC a combative interview between Prime Minister Tony Abbott and host Sarah Ferguson drew 669,000 viewers to current affairs show 7.30.

The Nine network won the night overall with an audience share on its main channel of 21 per cent on the back of solid performances for its News, repeats of The Big Bang Theory (795,000 and 731,000) and the Footy Show.
