Masterchef hands Ten winning audience share as it also delivers in the demos

In a quiet night in TV Masterchef remained strong to be the only non-news show to crack the 1m viewer mark, helping Ten claim a winning audience share of 19.7 per cent.

Masterchef, kicking off from 7.30pm, pulled in 1.11m metro viewers, up on last week’s numbers of 1.025m at 7.30pm to see the elimination of hipster engineer Jared. The Masterclass portion of last night’s episode was watched by 912,000 from 8.30pm.

Masterchef and the Masterclass segment were the first and second most-watched shows amongst the key advertising demographics (16-39, 18-49 and 25-54).

The cooking show easily out-rated Nine’s showing of one of Jeremy Clarkson’s final appearances on Top Gear, which was watched by 512,000.

Also on Ten, 364,000 metro viewers tuned in to farewell US talkshow host David Letterman, with the final of The Late Night Show airing from 9.45pm.

Meanwhile, The Checkout, airing on the ABC at 8pm, grabbed a metro audience of 613,000, down from last week’s audience of 641,000.

On Seven, Surveillance Oz: Dashcam, in the 8pm to 9pm timeslot, was watched by 688,000, beating The Checkout.

The ABC had an audience share of 11.4 per cent, while Seven had a share of 15.9 per cent, with Nine claiming third place with a share of 18.4 per cent.

When secondary channels are accounted for, Nine won the night with a total share of 26.2 per cent, with Seven in second place (25.9 per cent), and Ten in at third with a share of 25.5 per cent.

Nine’s The Footy Show, airing from 8.50pm, crashed to 524,000 after pulling in 702,000 last week.

Meanwhile, on the ABC, 7.30 pulled an audience of 680,000 while the final of Our Girl (8.30pm) was watched by 402,000. On SBS, Eurovision’s Greatest Hits, also on at 8.30pm, was watched by 267,000.

In news, Nine News at 6pm won the evening with a metro audience of 1.087m, dipping to 1.068m at 6.30pm. Seven News was watched by 923,000 metro viewers from 6pm, declining to 846,000 from 6.30pm.
