Masterchef helps Ten to stronger performance in key demographics

Ten’s cooking contest Masterchef was top show in the key advertising demographics on Wednesday night.

The show, which averaged 1.06m metro viewers, was third among all people and top among the age groups of 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54, according to preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTAM.

Last night’s episode saw contestant Emelia, a marketing coordinator from Victoria, slice off the tip of her finger and race against the clock to finish her dish before her rubber glove filled up with blood.

In Melbourne, where Masterchef is filmed, Ten had a rare second place for the night with a 16.5 per cent share just ahead of Seven’s 16.3 per cent. It also won its timeslot across the five city metro.

Meanwhile the most watched program of the night among all people was Nine News which rated just ahead of Seven News with both delivering just under 1.1m viewers across the five city metro.

Seven’s documentary on Michael Jackson, Autopsy, failed to find an audience, rating just 644,000 in the key 8.30pm timeslot.

Nine won the night with a metro share of 20.1 per cent, just ahead of Seven’s 18.6 per cent. Ten delivered an audience of 15.2 per cent, well ahead of ABC1’s 12.8 per cent.

In 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54 across the night, Nine was top, followed by Ten, then Seven.
