Masterchef still bubbling along but Downton Abbey continues to struggle for Seven
Masterchef just failed to break the one million metro viewer mark for Ten last night but still comfortably held off its reality rivals, as Downton Abbey continued to struggle for Seven.
The cooking show, which started strongly for Ten this week with audiences of 1.23m and 1.02m for its first two outings, was split into two episodes last night, drawing 926,000 at 7.30pm and rising to 999,000 at 8.30pm, according to overnight OzTam overnight metro ratings.
Seven’s House Rules captured 655,000, a slight improvement on Wednesday night’s 631,000 but Reno Rumble fell again, from 791,000 to 766,000.
Their debut shows on Tuesday drew 791,000 and 873,000 respectively, although Reno Rumble was also simulcast on Gem and House Rules was roadblocked across all three of Seven’s channels.
It was another disappointing night for Downton Abbey, which followed House Rules on Seven at 9.15pm – just as the second Masterchef episode was drawing to an end – by equalling last week’s all-time low of 635,000.
But the UK drama again did well in time shifted numbers with an additional 260,000 viewers watching last week’s episode to take its total audience to 895,000.
Nine won the night with an audience share of 20.9 per cent, with Ten and Seven level on 17.9 per cent. ABC took 11.7 per cent and SBS 4.2 per cent.
The Footy Show grabbed an audience of 613,000 while consumer affairs show The Checkout, which was up against the reality trio, remained largely on par with last week with an audience of 723,000, down marginally from 731,000.
In news, Nine took the honours with 1.04m tuning in at 6pm, falling to 1,002 at 6.30pm. Seven’s 6pm segment drew 1.03m with Seven News/Today Night taking 936,000.
