Masterchef wins the night despite debut of The Block
A voluntary shock exit on Masterchef won the battle of the reality lifestyle shows last night as the Ten juggernaut attracted the most viewers despite the debut of Nine’s latest series of The Block.
Contestant Adam Bowen’s decision to leave the cooking show attracted almost 1.7 million, according to preliminary metro ratings from OzTam.
The Block was the fourth most-watched show with 1.34 million. It aired for an hour from 7pm, crossing over with the first half hour of Masterchef which was on at 7:30.
This year’s debut of the home renovation competition beats that of last year’s series which pulled in 1.13 million and ranked ninth.
The premiere week sees eight couples complete an elimination challenge before four go onto compete in the main competition.
Meanwhile, the closely-fought battle between Today and Sunrise continued with Seven’s Sunrise narrowly beating Today by 5,000 with 349,000.
No Ordinary Family on Seven continued to fall, down by 41,000 on last week with 766,000.
Nine won the night overall with a 22.5 per cent share.
