M&C Saatchi flies in Michael Canning as new executive creative director for Sydney office

Screen Shot 2015-11-24 at 11.34.06 AMJust  months after luring Andy DiLallo across from Leo Burnett as chief creative officer, M&C Saatchi has named Michael Canning as executive creative director.

Canning returns to Australia from Los Angeles after a five year stint where he was most recently with the lauded agency, 72 and Sunny.

He will have creative oversight of the agencies’ 400-strong Sydney office, replacing Ben Welsh who was promoted to be chairman of Asia in September.

DiLallo will focus on building the creative operations of M&C’s Sydney and Melbourne offices.

The agency is currently battling to retain one its biggest clients Optus.

“I’ve been lucky to work with some great people in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago in recent years,” said Canning

“M&C Saatchi Australia is a company I have always respected for the impact they create for big brands, and being asked to help lead a new chapter alongside this team has proved impossible to pass up.”

DiLallo said the appointment was a major coup for the agency.

“Bringing him into the fold of M&C Saatchi is a testament to our commitment to offer clients the greatest competitive advantage creativity has to offer,” said DiLallo.

Canning has built up an impressive trophy cabinet over the years including 40 Cannes Lions.
