McDonald’s bottles Big Mac Special Sauce and auctions it for charity

MCD5101-BigMac-Sauce-Image_1700x1700_R1McDonald’s has bottled its Big Mac Special Sauce and is auctioning off the first bottle on eBay for charity, while a vending machine will tour the country this month allowing consumers to grab a bottle for free in return for a Tweet.

The bottled sauce is part of a national campaign which sees 200 500ml bottles produced, with proceeds from the eBay auction going to Ronald McDonald House Charities. At publication the eBay auction was up to $23,100.

DDB’s PR, social media and experiential agency Mango is behind the Big Mac Special Sauce vending machine.

Mark Lollback, chief marketing officer of McDonald’s Australia, said: “Big Mac sauce is one of the most iconic McDonald’s ingredients and people often ask us where they can buy it; so we’re excited to be the first country in the world to offer tubs of Big Mac sauce to our customers.

“I know of people who love adding our Special Sauce to all types of food – from French Fries to McNuggets – so it’s going to be interesting to see what Aussies choose to add a spot of Big Mac sauce to over the next month.

“We’re excited to be auctioning off the first-ever bottle of Big Mac sauce for a cause we are passionate about. It’s going to be interesting to see just how much people are prepared to pay for such a sought after commodity!”

The auction kicked-off last night and will run until 9.00pm AEST on Monday February 9.

During February McDonald’s customers will also be able to purchase 25ml tubs of the Special Sauce at restaurants around the country.
