M&C’s Make appoints creative technologist

M&C Saatchi’s digital production agency Make has created the new role of creative technologist and appointed London-based digital operator James Bush to the position.

The appointment comes after Australia had not one entrant in the running for the Cyber Lions shortlist at Cannes with some pointing to the absence of creative technologists from most agencies.

In a guest post on Mumbrella today, Ashadi Hopper, national digital ECD at JWT and an Australian jury member at Cannes said: “Most of entries we’ve seen from Australia have been advertising led. But the work that’s winning at Cannes has been technology led.”

Bush joins M&C after 13 years in the digital arena, from production, to adland holding digital director roles as well as founding and running his own companies. Most recently Bush was technical director at London hotshot Stinkdigital, working across brands such as Nike, RayBan and CNN.

He has worked with AKQA, W&K, BBH, Mother, Karmarama and TBWA and in 2005 Bush founded Dead Technical, a digital led production company which he ran for five years.

M&C Saatchi group GM of digital services, Olivia Hall said of the appointment: “James is one of those rare commodities: a true ideas-led thinker with a developer DNA and this is exactly what the role of creative technologist calls for. We’re demanding consistently world class digital work so it’s not surprising that we eventually found our ideal candidate working across Europe & the US consistently doing just that.”
