If Dr Mumbo is reading The Sunday Telegraph’s rate card correctly, a full page ad costs around $5,000. Then you add a further 40% if you want it to be on an early general news page between page six and 12. And a further 30% for full colour. So call it nine grand to be on page eight of today’s Sunday Tele.
Dr Mumbo wonders if the good folk of Qantas feel they got tremendous value for their ad today, opposite a lead story with the headline “Pilots want Joyce gone”.

Have I got this right? The man in the ad represents Qantas. The toddlers about to get rewarded with a toy, no doubt made in Asia, represent us. If that’s right can’t think of ever seeing more patronising ad from a corporation. Or is the man a Qantas traveler who has been rewarded with 2 toy bears, made in Asia, to give to his kids?

Full page = 38×7 = 266 ccm
So $174 x 266 = $46,284 + 30% colour + 40% for pge 6-12
FPC = $84,236.88

Lol anon is completely right in the breakdown Im ex Tele staff. Can say never seen a FPC in the Sun Tele go for that rate in the last 5 years in EGN EVER. PS Talking boonie, there a huge difference between the PCCM rate in the Sun Tele & the Daily Tele!!!!! back to school Mumbo 🙁

This Qantas advertising blunder was repeated everywhere so I think they blew hundreds of thousands with their completely idiotic timing
Bad press not only kills good advertising, advertising at the same time you’re receiving bad press damages your brand
They just spent a fortune damaging their own reputation for honesty
Yet another reason why advertising should report into corporate affairs/PR
