Media lessons #29: Never tell a journo the angle you don’t want them to take
It seems 21-year-old Marco learned the hard way over the weekend you should never tell a journo the one thing you don’t want them to write about you.
“Whatever you write about me, please, don’t say, Marco was born a boy and now he’s a girl. I was always a girl, it just took some time to share it with the world”, is the opening line of a candid interview with her.
So what did Fairfax title the piece? ‘Born a boy, feeling like a girl’ of course.
After some social media outcry Fairfax did the decent thing and changed the headline on the story to ”I was always a girl’: the journey of a transgender child’.
However, a quick search on a Fairfax website still brings up that original headline, although it does click through to a dead link at least.
Blog lesson #1: proof your work so you don’t make two errors in as many paragraphs.

seems the lefty rag had a momentary lapse in pathological altruism…perhaps it had already spent its weekly quotient justifying why returning jihadists will actually be good for de-radicalising Muslim youth…twisting logic takes a lot of energy, you know….
